Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age review: A gorgeous JRPG for the modern age
Dragon Quest XI is a beautifully presented and well-told epic story that takes everything fans love about old-school Japanese role playing games like Final Fantasy and translates the traditional formula masterfully into a modern game. In many ways, the game isn't so modern at all: the story-driven single player RPG format may seem like a step back. But it's that change that makes the game so pure and enjoyable. This isn't a simple game and that is made abundantly clear after spending just minutes in the game's massive and complex world. The battle system proves turn-based combat can still be extremely nerve-wracking and exciting.

You need to finish 'Dragon Quest XI'
Most role playing games live and die by the characters and the stories they weave. The decades-old Dragon Quest series has reached its 11th iteration, and Dragon Quest XI attempts to both both celebrate the series so far, and court a new audience. And if any RPG series is ripe for new fans, it's Dragon Quest. Square Enix has primed players with both its Minecraft-esque Builders series and Dragon Quest Heroes, which borrows the grand scale battles of KOEI's Dynasty Warriors series. But this is the meat-and-potatoes Dragon Quest that fans know and love.
Square Enix's E3 showcase: Just Cause 4, Dragon Quest XI, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and more
Square Enix hasn't held an E3 press conference since 2015, a full three years ago. So when I heard they were holding one this year, I assumed there must be some huge announcements on the way. The focus was very much on Kingdom Hearts III, which isn't coming to PC. The highlight for us was Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but...well, we just saw that one two months ago. Overall it wasn't the event I was hoping for, but we've gone ahead and rounded up all the announcements below, along with any trailers and game footage we could find.
